Description: On odd days, Tripp Broody uses a school practice room to let loose on a borrowed guitar. Eyes closed, strumming that beat-up instrument, Tripp escapes to a world where only the music matters. On even days, Lyla Marks uses the same practice room. To Tripp, she’s trying to become even more perfect—she’s already a straight-A student and an award-winning cellist. But when Lyla begins leaving notes for him in between the strings of the guitar, his life intersects with hers in a way he never expected. What starts as a series of snippy notes quickly blossoms into the sharing of interests and secrets and dreams, and the forging of a very unlikely friendship. Challenging each other to write songs, they begin to connect, even though circumstances threaten to tear them apart. Review: This book is absolutely adorable. I went into this book assuming that it was about two kids passing notes through a guitar or something (so basically just what the title implies); but let me tell you, it was so much more than just that. I was expecting a cute, light read, but I was not prepared for the vast amounts of adorable I experienced through reading this book. Although this book is YA, it is geared more towards younger YA readers, so it had this sense of innocence and naivety that I absolutely adored. Guitar Notes is the perfect book when you need to get out of a reading slump, just want a fast and cute read, or need a book that will make you smile. Let me tell you, I was always lifted up in spirits when I read this book. It makes it so that you can't not smile because of how cute the characters are and just the overall amazingness of the book. Now, I know that I have been raving about how cute the story is (and it truly is!) but the book also deals with serious topics and is honest about them. I am hesitant to say this because I don't want to take away any surprises or anything, but I actually cried twice while reading this book. This is a phenomenon that does not regularly occur for me. I am not going to explain why or give any hints as to why I cried, but I will say that this book hits you like a ton of books when you are finished with it. I had an amazing journey with the characters Tripp and Lyla and I know for sure that this is a book that I will read and re-read time after time because the emotions it gives are so real and it portrays what it is actually like to grow up and trying to find where you belong and what your interests are as you go along.
